Ghent is a Belgian city situated in East Flanders that offer foreign workers a lot to see and explore. It is the capital city of the province and the second largest municipality in Belgium. The city of Ghent has about 250,000 inhabitants and is known as a beautiful Flemish town with picturesque hiking trails along the rivers Leie and Schelde. Ghent is also home to one of the country’s most famous universities, which contributes to a lively atmosphere. Gent’s local economy is largely based around the Port of Gent, which is a large harbour and home to many big corporations.
The city’s railway station is the busiest in the country, and many tourists go here to explore the architecture and the historic streets. The old part of the city hosts two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Flemish Béguinages and the Belfry of Ghent. A large portion of the city’s medieval buildings remain intact and is well preserved and restored. The city centre of Ghent is the largest car free area in Belgium.
